That horizon

Post by Green Gibbon! »

Just checking in case I might have missed it, but did we ever get any scans of the Japanese Chaotix manual that don't suck? Browsing through my own shit, I see that I have one good page with the enemies on it, and some illegible pages with the story and characters. What I am seeking at the moment is a list of the Item Box power-ups...

Bulk from Sonic Dimension transcribed the text from the character pages so they would be easier to read. The scans that you have are all what exist.

I know I am a lousy fanboy. Man, I am only now getting around to purchasing a Sega Saturn.

(I couldn't find one in town so I am resorting to ebay. Please tell me if there is anything I should know before buying.)

Saturns use VMU batteries to save data, so make sure you have one if your's isn't coming with one. When I bought mine (from the net), it wouldn't save. It took me quite a while to learn about the batteries. Then I learned that the battery wasn't dead, the guy who sold it to me had shoved it in upsidedown.

Forget the batteries and get a memory card.

Make sure it's a memory card though. I got a 'ram' card. That just boosts the processing power.

Only in Japan. They were required to play certain games, such as Capcom's fighters.

The fighters required more RAM? Seems like they would be the least intensive genre for a console.

The Saturn needed more RAM to store all the animation frames in order to be arcade perfect, so Capcom made a 4MB RAM cart that was bundled in with some of the fighters.

Wasn't there also some additional MPEG sort of device that some games took advantage of to have higher quality FMV? I remember hearing something about this in reference to the Lunar games...

The Video CD card? Yeah, played those and MPEG1 video. There was a version of Lunar on the Saturn with better FMV and all that. Only in Japan, of course.

Sega, JVC and Hitachi all made them, and then there's the pirate ones that suck. Read this. Fuck knows about price; I'd guess $LOTS.
